Biblical teaching on 'Climate Change'

Psalm 147:5-18

Climate change is a hot topic these days. We must look at this subject from God's point of view so that we are not misled by the hysteria of our time.

Consider the following facts:

  • The sovereign God controls every aspect of the weather. The climate is the obedient slave of the Lord: “Fire, and hail; snow and vapor, tempestuous wind that does its word” (Psalm 148:8).
  • The constancy of the seasons and the general stability of the weather is guaranteed by the Noahic Covenant: “From now on all the days of the earth shall not cease seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.” (Genesis 8:22)
  • When the nation of Israel disobeyed God, they were under God's curses, including severe famine and weather problems (Deuteronomy 28).
  • It is the height of pride for man to think that his actions or inaction would affect the earth's climate in any significant way (Isaiah 2:12, 22).
  • In the tribulation there will be severe plagues that will catastrophically affect the environment and climate. This includes severe famine (Rev. 6:5-6), destruction of vegetation and marine life (Rev. 8:7, 9), seas and rivers turning to blood (Rev. 16:3-4), and unprecedented global warming. earth (Rev. 16:8-9).
  • In the millennium the weather will be ideal and the environment will be like being in Eden. But even in the 1,000-year kingdom, those who disobey God can face dire consequences regarding the weather. God will withhold rain from them (Zechariah 14:16-19).
  • After the 1000-year kingdom, God's caused global warming of extreme nuclear proportions will destroy and melt the entire universe: "Then the heavens will pass away with a crash, and the elements will burn, and the earth and the works upon it will burn up (2 Peter 3:10).

The futile efforts of men and nations will never change these seven biblical certainties.

May we be found trusting God and serving Him whose world this is (Psalm 24:1) - the coming King and Judge of the earth!

“So if all these things pass away, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and in godliness. (…) But we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.”

2 Peter 3:11, 13
